Just searching a phone number on Google is not a guarantee of finding the identity of someone. That may only work if the person that owns that number is not careful and posts it online somewhere along with their name on something that a search engine can even find. And then there is no guarantee that the information is old. But, sometimes especially when they are rookies, they use the phone numbers that they got when they bought a contract plan or a post pay plan that does not require a contract like TMobile. That information is not available anywhere online unless the person is careless.

But, for a fee, there are services that can tell you who the phone number is registered to on cell phone or landline phones. I did fined one website that will provide that info at no cost. Once they learn about burner phones or burner numbers though, this technique won't work. But, in a few cases, I have been able to figure out their identities this way. And between their facebook pages and other information I could find, I have had additional information to help me decide if I wanted to pursue them or not. So, there has been valuable for me to do this.
