Anywhere in Detroit can be dangerous and IMO, unless you are very experienced I would not mess with John are or anywhere on the east side unless you plan on doing a lot of recon. I have found Mich Ave in SW Det to be a much less intimidating stroll but it is much farther from where you are staying.

About 10 years ago I lived not far from there and would find excellent talent on any given night. But from the reports I see now I think the selection is limited. You'd be better off finding a provider that can host and just plan on paying a little more. I know the thrill of the hunt is enticing, but if you're willing to drive 20 min. In any direction you'll find good opportunities abound.
