Added details: Nothing extraordinary on the massage, on the flip, she asked how much you tip for extras, I put up 4 fingers, she negotiated up to 5 fingers, agreed, the race is on. I started OTC roaming, she said 6 fingers if I touch her, MF, okay, no touching her, stay with. 5 tip and enjoy the moment. I tried the new place in Warrenton at the original Vivi location about a month ago. Had an older, unattractive lady. Her hand technique wasn't bad, but probably won't repeat without intel that they have someone younger and more attractive.

Oasis in Gainesville: for the table shower, they give you little shorts to wear, so there really isn't any fun to be had in the shower, at least the time I tried it with Chu. The norm here is full time and a decent massage but normally nothing else. And yes, my last two visits they have tried to get me to upgrade to 90 minutes and the shower. I do repeat there, because massage always goes the full time or more and are consistently decent. I normally tip 25-30, unless something unexpected happens which is rare. I have never had a complaint about the tip I provide and they have never specified a tip.

Haven't been to Vivi in awhile, but been there many times and never had to negotiate a tip. I think the lady I use to see was Amy or Angela, probably late 30's early 40's. She provided a good massage and nice relief and had a friendly personality.

There's been a lot of back-and-forth on this issue but, IMHO, your experience backs up my belief that tipping in advance is generally not a good strategy.

As I said, I'm just visiting in this area, so I wasn't sure on the protocol. After reading your post, I feel educated and like I could have tried some of your strategies to get a better experience. Oh well. Where I live in San Diego, there are basically two scenarios: a) you go to an HE only place and there is no negotiation before or after. $40 is expected; or, b) you go to a FS place and the only negotiation is 1.2 vs 1.4, which really depends on the girl, and to me isn't that big of a deal.

Anyway, you live and learn. Thanks again for the advice. If you ever find yourself in San Diego, I can help point you in the right direction.

Bamboo Therapy is a nice place- but does not have TS facilities.

I saw Lee (may have been Laya) last night. A nice older lady (over 40) with a very good massage technique / touch.

A+ marks for the massage, post-massage wipe-down (many warm towels), excellent attitude and very clean facility.

Another plus as far as I am concerned- they do not rush / do not short you on time and they seem appreciative of customers (assist with shoes, etc).

Standard rates and tips accepted with grace. I will likely repeat.

Are there exceptions? Sure, for ladies you've seen before or for whom you have advance intel (about the individual masseuse, not just general info about the spa). Other than that, tipping in advance puts you completely at the mercy of the provider. The hobby is enough of a crapshoot already and we need to maintain as much leverage as we can.

JMS is absolutely correct. I think "tipping in advance" is a situation experienced clients and massage providers have learned is counter productive. New mongers, new clients and new providers may lack the confidence to believe that all will be well that ends well.

IMO, the ladies remember clients and past tipping practice- if you've seen a provider before and provided the appropriate tip for services, you will very likely receive better or at least as good service on subsequent visits- and the provider will not be worried about seeing a tip in advance.

Always be nice to the ladies.

What an absolute waste of time. 0 conversation, 0 enthusiasum in shower and massage.

Zero effort in massage. Grilling me with question as if I was undercover.

It was so bad I asked if someone else was available and she said no so I said ok I'm leaving.

She was a bit surprised but then I asked for my money back while getting dressed. She didn't even push back.

Got my refund and walked out. Another provider walked me to the door and asked.

Me why I was leaving. I just said I won't ever be back.

Some of you may remember that a few months ago several of us starting get emails about a massage from a large chested red head. Many of us felt something not right with her email or website. Well monger I want To warn everyone about the scam. First via text or email you're asked to pick a time and session, after that you will be instructed to drive to pan am shopping center.

You will be told this is a location close to her incall and for privacy reason it's just a minute from her apartment. Next you will be told that since this is your first time booking a appointment with her you will need to be verified first you will be instructed to go into a store to get a American Express gift card or Visa gift card once you get the gift card you will then send a picture of the front and back of the gift card to prove that you're real and because you're asked to do that you will be given a special bonus a forehand massage.

Next the person will tell you that they have been scammed before and they need this information to make sure you are real the next address you'll be giving is at circle tower apartments,from that you will be given the apartment number once you were verified it's a huge scam I doubt it's even a woman it's probably some guy in Africa running a scam.

You also be asked to give you a real first name first and last name. I played along to see how far they would go or next excuse. Cost me 3 dollars from ATM getting cash prior. I can’t imagine anyone dumb enough for this

I'm visiting from out of town this week and stopped in to HB in Arlington. I was greeted at the backdoor by the mamasan and was told I was getting "the new girl. " In walks Pepsi or Pipsy. She is a stunner. Pretty face and a lithe body made for sin with DD bolt ons. She's wearing a skimpy dress with those huge melons bulging out, so I was happy at this point. I paid. 6 for hhr. Not much of a massage, she basically just rubbed my back and legs for a while, but I wasn't really here for a massage. On the flip she says to put her tip on the counter. I'm visiting from out of town, so not sure on the protocol or pricing here, so I lay down $60, hoping for an HE with UTC touching. She looks offput by my $60, but grabs the oil and tells me to lay down. Then she gives me the absolute worst HJ I've encountered. Straight jackhammer style. Nothing sensual, no teasing, no "encouraging" talk, and a pouty face. And she positions herself by my feet so I can't touch her at all. I ask her to move closer and she says no. I dutifully finish but am rather unhappy with the experience.

So in sum, very hot girl with very poor service level. Maybe if I had tipped more I would have received a better menu, but I'll never know b / c there is no way I'm going back to see her again.

Why? Because what happens after the flip is quite simply a negotiation, either explicit or implicit. And tipping in advance has the effect of shifting all the leverage to the massage provider. Maybe she'll be happy with it, maybe she won't. Maybe she'll "take the hint" if you put down an amount that shows you want more than standard NOVA, or maybe she'll only deliver basic service and pocket the difference. Either way, the client is no longer in control. Good luck trying to recover any amount you feel is not deserved.

The essential value of tipping is to incentivize good service. Except for top-tier restaurants (in which service is rarely an issue) you tip after a meal, not before. Whenever I'm asked or pressured to tip in advance my response is always "if I'm happy I will make sure you are happy" or "the happier you make me, the happier I'll make you" or something similar. If that doesn't resolve the issue then I'll tell her that I only want massage. When faced with the prospect of no tip at all, most masseuses cut the crap and move on to whatever level of extras they're willing to provide. For the very few that keep pressuring me, I get dressed and leave. Depending on the spa I might say something to MMS in the hopes that, even though I know I won't return (or won't see that masseuse again), it makes things better for the next guy.
