When you post an ad on Backpage, you can pay for it, or not pay for it. If you don't pay for it then it has lower visibility, only appearing in the "date" category. Since "top" is the default, and "gallery" is probably the most used, casual users won't even see the free ads. I think that says something about the people who post free ads--they can't get enough money together at one time to either have the $5 for an ad, or to have a bank account or credit card to pay for it through. But then maybe it doesn't say anything about them, because many of the people posting paid ads probably have "managers" posting for them.

When you pay for an ad, you can additionally have it "sponsored" and then it appears for some number of days in the sponsored ads section. Usually days after the provider has already moved on to another state.

There are *many* web sites that just copy ads from Backpage and add their own links to pay sites and pay-per-click advertising. Some of them are smart enough to copy from the "date" list, and others aren't. All of them are bottom feeders, but some of them have a better interface than Backpage Some of them keep up-to-date, while others sometimes don't update at all over the weekend or during the day. None of them delete ads automatically when they are removed from Backpage, so often have ads that providers have removed, or edited with less compromising pictures.

This has nothing to do with your browser. Its all about how much you are paying for the ad. When you opt for pics and repeat display in a day, you get preference. Just like google. You pay to google to be in the top list on first page no matter how crappy the products are. I know this because I work in a IT company that has this background.

Try creating a post in BP so you will get the clear picture.

Correct, you only get ALL ads if you are searching in DATE mode. I am guessing this is a billing issue on the provider's end (ie gallery listing is more expensive). If you go far enough back in the GALLERY mode, it will reset once you get one month back. Then you get the others that are only featured in DATE mode. Not sure if this makes sense, but essentially you need to use DATE mode and put in some time.
