I use an app called Burner on I phone which is just that. It sets you up with another number and routes calls & texts through it. You can burn the number and get a new one whenver you want. Relatively inexpensive. You can also set notification levels to the point that you won't see or hear a text unless you go into the app. And if you have some downtime between hobbying you can delete the app from the phone & download it again when you want to.
