All of these comments are good advice and should be considered to be proper protocol no matter which end of the phone you are holding. I'm not going to scrutinize the reasons, but things do come up sometimes with hobbiests and providers alike, needing to change their plan. I make it clear that whenever I play a 'road game' more than 15 minutes from my home field, that I will not leave until I get a reply to confirm the appointment is still on. In addition, if it's my first time, I insist that I get an address with that confirmation, so I know exactly where I am going. I tell them in my initial request, that I will not leave until I hear back, with the address. I have made that 55 minute drive more than once to find out that the phone went silent after getting close, or the venue had moved to the other side of town, or even the other side of the river, adding another 30 minutes each way to my trip. I am amazed at how quickly I get a response, when I send that second text telling them that I am canceling my appointment, because they have failed to confirm or provide me the exact location.
