I'm not going to say that Rei and Flamebird haven't given you some very sage advice. In point of fact, thay have. But maybe we should look at Oager's post for what it was, as he wrote it.

First, he made an off-handed comment about the 3-way. He gets away with it because he and his wife have a good relationship, maybe they're open with each other (I don't know, I'm just guessing). But she didn't turn around and slap him, or anything. My point being, she left the door open and didn't shut him right down.

Second, it's HER friend, not HIS friend. What do you really know about the two of them? How long have they known one another? You say she's a bit older, single, and a flirt? Maybe she's loose. If your wife and this woman do go back a ways, who knows? Maybe they've already shared thoughts, ideas, feelings, etc. About these types of sexual encounters / adventures before. Maybe. Listen to Rei on this. DO NOT DO IT.

The ONLY time you can do this and get away with it, is to let your wife know you would be open to it under the following conditions:

That's my advice; having been down that road years ago, not with a wife, but with a SO.

Circumstances were a bit different than yours however, in that her best friend (also a flirt,) during one of our Saturday night poker get-togethers, out of the blue, said that she's horny, and what about a 3-way. One used to set up on Manton across from DD in the market parking lot. No matter where they set up these can be a target rich enviorment. I once found a willing non pro at the one set up in the S&S lot in Narragansett!
