Posts: 837I agree with DiDi. These aren't "fronts" soley designed to launder money in the traditional sense. Are some the of the owners associated with other questionable businesses? Who knows.
But how do they stay open?
As DiDi points out the overhead (fixed) costs are relatively low. The result of running one of the slow ones is exactly what we see in many of the local joints. They don't close their doors because they are marginally profitable but the "talent" is poor. Hence all the 50 year old hags instead of comely 25 year olds. The hotties have other, better options and exercise them (in ATL or some other city). That leaves Buford Hwy shops with the aged ones.

I would wager that the majority of the Chinese Parlors are legit and not fronts. Some get enough traffic to keep their doors open, some actually make a profit; but many in fact do not make it and do close. Depending on overhead, which is pretty low considering your employees are paid based on productivity rather than a time sheet. It really doesn't take much to make these places profitable. Its much more likely the Korean Parlors are a front, but to be honest, most of them are simply brothels and are closed when the act of prostitution and its solicitation are caught.
Laundering money was the easiest of crimes to prove especially when considering that this was indeed a brothel. The report illustrates that LE was conducting surveillance and undercover operations; which translates to, they caught one or more of the providers in an act of prostitution."Money laundering is the process of concealing a source of money obtained by illicit means." In this case, the money was obtained via illicit means and through surveillance was discovered to be not reported or transparent. In Georgia, if you are in a business activity or working for a company doing illegal business you are automatically associated with that activity regardless of whether you actually committed a crime. Generally speaking, a conspiracy is an agreement by two or more persons to commit a criminal act or series of criminal acts, or to accomplish a legal act by unlawful means. In Georgia, you are guilty by association. That means that all employees and the owners at the time of the bust were pretty much guilty of prostitution and laundering money.
Also, any customer who was in that place at the time of the bust would probably be arrested as well.
Here is what I want to know, what LE got the job of "undercover operations"? According to the article it took 4 years to close this place down. That means whatever agents were in the proverbial "position" to be the undercover LE were doing it for 4 years. I WANT THAT JOB!
Cheers,
Di.

Posts: 351When I have been to Yini, it seems pretty busy but that doesn't mean they are financially sound. They are adding an additional room as well. I thought it was owned by someone named "Wendy", but that could just be an intermediate person. It is somehow associated with Swan.

Posts: 13634About your only options is the pricey girls with individual ads that work out of the upscale apartment in Buckhead. A sample: http://atlanta.backpage.com/BodyRubs...wn-24/16086862

Posts: 13634Most of the Chinese parlors get enough customers so I assume they are profitable, but a few such as Yini don't seem to be doing very well; however, I think Yini is owned by a guy who has one or two more parlors, so Yini's losses are offset. As for money laundering, could be possible that a parlor is used as a front for gambling at another location, but unless someone is tailing the owner 24/7, they're not likely to find anything.

Posts: 180The money laundering aspect of massage parlor and other assumed illegal operations has to do with taking the profits of an illegal activity and converting it to appear as the product of a legal activity. In this case, the prosecutors assume that the workers were performing illegal acts within the premises, but declaring that the profits were from legit massages.
This brings up another related thought. With the proliferation of small legit massage spas that seem to be appearing on every street corner, one has to wonder if these are fronts for some other enterprises that need to convert their proceeds into seemingly legit business profits. Just how many legit massage providers are needed? Are they really that profitable to remain in business? Or, are they managing to maintain the appearance of enough customer traffic to have a marginal business, and behind the scenes are funneling extra money from outside sources into their deposits to launder it. In the secretive Korean / Chinese / Asian community, it is tough to tell. From my perspective, it's hard to believe that they are all profitable enough to remain in business as long as they do.

Posts: 13634The chances of LE finding human trafficking evidence is slim to none because of the secrective Korean society. Unless you're Korean and can break into that, you'll never get anywhere. Same goes with Chinese, Vietnamese, etc.

Posts: 351I read the macon article, and it said none of the working girls were charged. It sounds like the 'owner' was an absentee living in Atlanta and the 72 year old was the person running the show at the storefront. I'm not sure about the third person, but it included interstate charges and money laundering, so I suspect it is part of that. With all of the fed agencies involved, it sounds like the 'massage' part of the business was the least interesting. As you might expect, they didn't find any human trafficking either.

Posts: 1862Seems like we have only 60+ yr old masseuses populating our local AMP's. If a lot more guys stopped patronizing these places things would change fast. The folks in Texas have it so good when it comes to the quality of masseuses at their area AMP's.

Posts: 13634The scary part is wondering whether the 72-year-old was a working girl and offering extras.

Posts: 1862Sedona Tanning Salon, closed in prostitution case
Http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/story/21...stitution-casePolice have closed a Macon massage parlor after the owner and two women were indicted on prostitution and money laundering charges.
The Telegraph of Macon reports the indictment returned by a federal grand jury Friday came after authorities spent more than four years investigating the business.
The massage parlor's 44-year-old owner, Hyeon Joo Chae of Atlanta, was charged along with 72-year-old Kye Wol Dyreson and 49-year-old Ki Un Jordan on counts of using an interstate facility to promote prostitution and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Macon police Maj. Charles Stone says investigators have been conducting surveillance and undercover operations at the Sedona Tanning Salon, formerly known as Soft Hands Massage and Spa, since 2008.

Posts: 85My visit to your city
I was in Atlanta this week and saw the following two Massage Providers;
Dylan (on backpage) She is VERY beautiful.
Very easy to schedule with. She is very accommodating and very pleasant. I showed up at her incall location (very nice clean comfortable). She provider me with a thorough therapeutic massage. On the flip she was nude and I left a happy customer. Some talk about being expensive, $.80 for full nude massage from a hot young girl with a nice body. I didn't mind paying it as I was on vacation. Would def repeat. She said more is on the menu, just FYI.
Janae (on backpage)
Super sweet and beautiful AA girl. Nice incall location, very easy to find and plenty of parking. Does them out of her home, very cozy and comfortable. She is Fully nude and provides one of the best body to body massages I have ever had. ALL FOR $. Allows mutual touch and is an angel. Would def repeat when I'm back in town. She is sweet and makes you feel like you have known each other forever. If you like busty, sweet, very sensual girls, go see her.
PM me for any other info. I am sure I will get 100 of them, LOL.
Be cool and stay safe.
