I assume you guys are talking about putting these apps on your primary phone. Doesn't that raise red flags at home? My I phone's history and apps are completely accessable via I Cloud. And it would be more suspicious to deny access and change that than to get a different phone. At least with a burner phone, you can keep it COMPLETELY separated, electronically and physically. I've got a cheapy but it stays at work.

I agree, the cheapest, easiest and most confidential way is to purchase a prepaid disposable phone from Walmart, like straight talk phone. Pay cash for it, don't leave a paper trail. Activate it using a different area code / zip code so your number isn't local. Since there is no bill and no connection to you, this is the safest and cannot be tracked back to you. If you are really paranoid about getting caught, change the phone number frequently. Then if something does come up about your old number, it won't even be your number anymore.
