Either type of herpes Can Infect either the face or genitals. But the chances of transmission are lower for HSV1 to infect the genitals, or for HSV 2 to infect the face. Herpes transmission is significantly reduced when there is not an outbreak, but it is quite possible to contract herpes when there are no signs.
