The scary thing is that effective antibacterials are at least four to five years away.

More times than I like to remember there have been reports of girls on the Ave passing away. Some have been close and others I knew just in passing. No matter it's a very sad day when I read of a girl like Michelle losing her struggle with life on the infamous Ave. I often wonder if those of us who know these girls are the only ones that truly care about losing them. There are those girls that don't really belong on the Ave. Michelle is one of those girls. She was prettier than the average girl on the streets. One could tell she had pride in herself. She was always clean and pleasant. She would sit in one of her dresses usually on Huntingdon on the church steps. Watching the traffic go by almost hoping she would not be noticed. Yet she was very aware how badly she needed the few dollars she could make. She didn't like what she had to do to survive. None of the girls do. But they are thrust into a world that is so much bigger than they are and when they finally realize that, it is usually to late. What they do they have to do to survive. The mean streets will chew them up and and look for the next victim. It doesn't take very long. What many may not have known is that Michelle was working even though she knew she was sick. Just prior to her passing we were together. I cupped her face to kiss her goodbye which is what we always did. She cringed in excruciating pain. I remember thinking Oh My God what have I done. I told her how sorry I was that I had hurt her and she said it wasn't my fault. Then she showed me what appeared to be a large abscess about the size of my thumb under her hair. It was not a pleasant sight at all. That was a Saturday. I told her it looked very serious and she should try to get it looked at as soon as possible. The next day, Sunday she texted me that she took my advice and she was in the hospital. That is the last I heard of her. In the past few days two friends asked me if I knew what had happened to her. Without thinking I told them I was unaware anything had happened to her. All three of us thought at first it was the drugs that took her. But now in hindsight I wonder if it was the condition that I saw that that took this lovely girl from us.

No matter, she is now gone. It is my responsibility to this community and most of all to her, to make all those who read this aware that there is a very good possibility she did not die of drugs as so many do. I say this without knowing the cause of her death. But knowing the condition of her health, the possibility lies that she may have escaped a drug overdose and just simply passed away due to other circumstances. Should anybody have any info regarding this please share it with those of us that truly care what happens to the girls out there.

To Michelle you were an angel while you was with us and you will be missed greatly.

The bacteria usually kept in check through our natural barriers, hence sinus membranes, intestines, etc, can break through the barrier and cause infection. Once that happens, is can enter the blood stream cause a person to become septic and die very quickly. 50% of all hospital workers carry this form of resistant staph in their sinus passages. Chances are it will not cause infection, but at any given time it can with someone who uses needles and is run down to bits from long term drug use.

This is the second time in the past two months I google searched a name and found an obituary. I assume it was drug related. It seems like those a* holes that want to steal your wallet and all kind of other under handed s*t stay out there for ever but the ones that are still decent human beings regardless to the life style they live are taken away. Just out of sheer curiosity, has anyone ever hung around Center City around 12:30-2am? Depending on how lucky I get with something, I may have a job working night shift soon. I mean if you've read my post, you know I'm completely new. (Hence the name True Noob) I thought I'd start by just testing the 22 rules, by walking around seeing if I can I'd possible SWs and / or watch the stroll. I do not have any plans to attempt to solicit anything, I'm just really interested.

Also if I may, what got everyone else interested in "the hobby"? For me, it's because in all likelihood a normal relationship is not likely, but thankfully humans have developed alternative methods of relationships for the less fortunate.

The action in Center City is indoors, in the clubs and bars where normal people impress women with their looks and personality, not with a monetary offering. Be aware you'll run into men seeking men if you are in the 13th & Locust area. CookyJar, in his "alternative" life, used to hang out at the hotel near 16th & Catherine, but that street is all residential now. For normal paid action in Center City pick up the free weekly City Paper and find the ads for massage parlors, many of which are in the Vine & Race street area.

Wow that's kind of a harsh response. I got into this 'hobby' back in 90, 91 I was in my early 20's and fresh out of the Marines, had no fears, no website like this and I will admit now that I look back no brains. I think back on the abandon blds, houses, and parks that I let SW's take me too I'm lucky to still be alive, But I will say this Philly is a different jungle now. The 'game' is pretty much the same but the rules and the arena have drastically changed.

My advice to you is you need to practice and build confidence. To this day I park and use the 'boots on the ground' method. To me it just feels safer then pulling over and picking up from a car with a license plate tied to your name and address. Now having said that these days I would not park on or near the Ave (or any hot spot in philly for that matter) AFTER DARK.

A / C is a great place to get your feet wet and to learn and hone your skills. The strip in AC is relatively safe at any time of night due to the amount people and traffic that is always there. It is here where you can learn to develop your 'monger senses', learn the do's and don'ts and feel out what your approach and limits are going to be and if you want to pursue this hobby / addiction.

Yes I said addiction, for a good part of the 90's mongering was a weekly thing for me, there were nights that I would blow a tank of gas going from one local to another to find what I wanted. Now 20 some years later I still have those urges, I have a slit cut in the carpet of my car and every greenback I can hide away goes there to I build up enough to take off work and go on a hunt.

I parked on Cumberland last night around 8:30ish. Got a haircut from the $5 spot. I figured I'd take a walk, made a right on Huntington. First vehicle on the corner was my uncle Leo sitting there in his black Ford Explorer with his buddy. He is a great guy, I know he's among us. They looked me dead in my face so I gave them the nod and kept it moving. I walked down about two blocks and came around. I was still a little shook so I figured I'm getting the hell otta here. Back up toward K to my car I strolled. When I got to my car my uncle and his buddy was sitting directly behind my car, probably wanted to make sure I got back to my car safely. If I had come back to my car with a broad like I do on occasion he probably would have sent me on a short vacation. I am still shook. I just can't go through all of the BS for a dirty BJ. Spending the night in the slammer, ruining my business because I am not around to run it. Having my brother come get me again. I'm thinking of turning to the dancers when I want to be naughty. The crap aint worth it when I look at the big picture. Guys please send me a few numbers. I really like the broads that haven't been down long, as most of us do. I would appriciate it. BE CAREFUL!

That's part of the problem. No one take's what happens to these ladies serious. After all they are only low life prostitutes and junkies. (Sarcasm) The authorities only get drawn in if the media makes it a big deal.

Hey, the fact that we pursue this hobby means that none of us are choir boys, but I know that every one of these girls is somebody's daughter, and deserves to be accorded proper human respect. I always try to be decent, am NEVER in any way abusive, and seek to find those who maintain enough sense about them to value one's offer of friendship.

Holding a girl against her will like that is generally the first step in a sequence of behavior that rarely ends well, and reflects negatively on every one of us.
