It was most likely heroin. But crack can actually be injected, although there is the extra step required to separate the cocaine from the baking soda. Fairly basic chemistry involved, you simply need to introduce an acid (vinegar or lemon / lime juice is typically used). Not exactly good for your vasculature system, but then neither is their typically non sterile technique. Not really surprising that many of them end up with phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, and endocarditis.

This is a heroin addict for sure. I don't know what's worse a heroin or crack addict. The heroin addict when high will tend to be more mellow while the crack addict will be edgy. The heroin high may be more subtle and undetectable at times but if you know the signs to look for you can always tell. The nodding off or itching the tip of the nose signals the opiate high while the nervousness or twitching and paranoid behavior gives away the cocaine user. I had a regular whose service was top notch and then she disappeared on a state funded vacation and got clean.
