I am on the K a LOT, and I know and have experienced a lot, but I don't pretend to know everything. Oh and most of them think all of us are cheap. A big part of this problem is their management of money is vastly different than ours. If you offer them 10.00 they will very often say "really? Is that all you have". It is best to simply lie and say "yes it is". For many of us it is not all we have, but rather it is what we are willing to pay. This is not something they can wrap their minds around. They pay everything they have for the drugs they want. They have a difference set of values. I. I had the idea for starting a thread for SW Stroll maps and made that a reality, along with some very excellent subsequent technical map making support volunteered by Fbtom. It is used quite effectively for pointing new members and visitors to specific map information when trying to get the lay of the land for strolls here in the Philly area and elsewhere. However, now I can't even make a new post in the SW Stroll Map thread that I myself created! I would have to make it either here or in one of my Jersey threads which makes absolutely no sense in many circumstances, so I just don't make any comments whatsoever.

II. Even if I had a good idea idea for a new thread, I can't create one. Ed Norton created a thread for me for my index to my reports and pictures in Philly. It would be nice to have a similar thread created for my Jersey index, but I am thankful for what I got. Ed spent time on this for my behalf and yours and I thank him for his efforts.

III. Not being able to post in other threads means than I can't create a running and logical commentary or discussion anywhere unless it originates and / or stays in my own threads. I can't even give a shout out or make a positive comment to a contributor in any other thread, not here in the Philly area, not in any other city Forum. They either happen to catch my comment here in my thread or I may as well have been whispering into a hurricane.

2. I can't create new threads.

I. I consider myself capable of being a fairly creative person on occasion. The SW Stroll Map thread, building indexes to all my reports and pics and other innovations and contributions will attest to that. However, I am dependent upon the volunteer time and effort of other senior members to place any new thread idea I might have into reality. And, even when that happens, I have to depend on others to keep it updated because I can't post in it. I can't even publicly comment on it to the general membership in a Letter to the Editor. I have to rely upon a posting here to accomplish that.

II. I have occasional good ideas for new threads. I could create an index for the entire Philly area by stroll and by year modeled after what I did for my own reports and pics. I think my idea for a thread with reports of "Mongering Mistakes" would be also a good one, not just for the Philly area, but on a national basis. The best way to address ideas like this is to implement them yourself, as I did for my indexes. That is sometimes the only way good ideas get competently placed into practice. However, I can neither create new threads nor keep them updated, so they will languish undone and / or lack the many creative thoughts I have for achieving them.

3. Quirks in the new software.

I have noted a few bugs in the new software, as I am sure you have as well. They are no huge deal, but they are annoying and should be corrected nonetheless.

I. Quotations: I notice that double quotations in the original text written are sometimes translated to single quotations in the first published draft. You can change them back to double quotations again by editing your piece, but it is a pain to have to do it twice.

II. Smilies: they never appear with the first draft. You always have to edit them in.

III. Parentheses: A closing parenthesis is erased when placed next to a comma or period on the first draft and you have to edit it back to being a closing parenthesis.

IV. Paragraph or Outline Indentations: You can't get indentations even if you edit them in. All paragraphing and outlining is fully left justified.

That was enough griping for one night. Sometimes the sewer pipe just blocks up and you have to yell for the Roto Rooter guy. But, in this case it is like doing that when your phone line goes dead.

My experiences with negotiating have been mixed. If I'm doing a long motel date there is more leverage and the girl is still walking away with a decent amount.

I preferred the way the old software showed thumbnail images rather than just icons when multiple pics were attached to a post. Then again, I also like very much the ability with the new software to attach a very large pic to a post. With this capability, opportunities are presented for more than one way to skin a cat. Even an old technologically challenged dog like me apparently CAN sometimes learn new tricks, and somewhat get around the limitations presented by the new software, and even use it to be better and more varied in certain ways.
