It's been going on forever but maybe more and more are asking these days??

When asked, my standard response was that "I don't give an allowance for a first meet and greet short date. " If they had to Uber there, or pay a babysitter, I'd tell them that I'd take of that, in cash, when we meet -- meaning I'd never send it in advance. Because I do think that if they have to Uber there and back, it's fair for me to pay for it. But if they can't even order an Uber on their own. . . Forget it.

Agree with this approach. I'm not paying for a meet and greet beyond direct expenses and the meal, drinks, etc. And I'm never sending any money in advance. I've had plenty of success with these rules and I see no need to change them.
