I know everyone has their own game plan when it comes to this but this is mine. I stopped giving anything up front its actually a deal breaker for me. I usually tell them if you had a real job you get paid on Friday not Monday. Your job pays you after you do your job not before because you might not show up everyday.

I understand the provider's concern that once service is done, the hobbyist might not pay as agreed. But IMO that is so rare that it is irrelevant. Possible solution could be where money is shown to the provider at the beginning of session and transferred at the end.
