As with most things, take things you hear with a grain of salt. Violent crime in the US has been trending DOWN, not up. Per 100 K people, the rate was 380 violent crimes in 2022, down from 387 in 2021, which was down from 385 in 2020. This was the 3rd lowest it's been since 1990. In fact, in the 90's, the rate was above 700 5 times in that decade. We are significantly safer from violent crime now than we used to be 30 years ago.

So, please, remember that before regurgitating a narrative being pushed by certain politicians that all politicians are liars, and you should look up the facts instead of trusting what they're telling you.

Agree that this particular "trafficking" sting is pure BS though.

During her past visit to VA, she looked really good, seems like she lost all the weight, and a sex animal. As far as the feds are concerned, they have substantial (although not unlimited) funds. But they're prosecuting what, in their view, are serious felonies with lots of jail time and asset seizure potentially at stake. And they'll also be happy if they score some splashy publicity points.

The local prosecutors, OTOH, would be dealing with misdemeanors and the above factors don't apply. At the local misdemeanor level, assistant district attorneys are notoriously overworked and underresourced, which is why plea bargains are the order of the day. In fact, judges at that level get majorly pissed when cases are brought to trial that they think should have been settled. That's because the judges are also swamped and hate having their time wasted.

Different sandboxes, different rules. And that's why I suggested posing those questions to an experienced attorney who has played in both.

One final thought: Most (not all) of the murders and crime ravaging our inner cities fall under state law. They're felonies and efforts to deal with them take up the lion's share of the local LE (including prosecutors and courts) budget. Which leaves less of a share to handle misdemeanors.
