IIRC the main mechanism seems to be via the pox sores (like chicken pox). I think that 99% of cases in the US are gay men too. I do recall them saying that respitory droplets are another transmission mechanism but it seems you're far less likely to get it that way as opposed to contact with sores. I'd say for those of us in the hobby it's probably more important than ever to check providers for sores and walk if you see any. FWIW there is a vaccine and if you know someone who has tested positive for monkey pox or are willing to say you have sex with men then you can probably get it.
