I do a lot of business with vendors in south China. The Chinese government restricts them to only use wechat over WhatsApp. However most find ways to use WhatsApp for international business. I refuse to use wechat or have that on my phone because of the implications of China controlling the platform. I'm not worried that I'm personally in danger (I'm just a peon), it's more so I don't like the idea of China controlling the platform and having the ability to do anything they want with the data collected.
