I have no clue what this discussion is about, but I do think it's amusing that a mensa shirt has Ph. Ds spelled incorrectly. There is no apostrophe when pluralizing an abbreviation.

Since another of my academic achievements is a degree in English Literature, allow me to bring forth this tidbit for your evaluation:

The plural uses an apostrophe, as PhD's.

The degree form PhD is correctly abbreviated Ph (period) and then, the 4th letter of the alphabet. (Doctor of Philosophy.) But, in modern usage this is often discarded.

However, because either form combines lowercase and uppercase letters, the convention is to use an apostrophe S. (e. G. He has two PhD's in chemistry.).

But, this is one of several style forms that is very frequently ignored.
