I appeared in court a couple weeks later on the appointed date and pleaded NOT GUILTY. I was given another court date 4 weeks later for pretrial I believe. On that day the judge called me and 4 others at about 10:15am and threw our misdemeanor charges out, because the police officers who wrote us up were no shows.
I had to arrange business trips to Detroit for both court dates, but other than juggling my schedule, the costs were zero, and I do not live in Michigan. I hope they lay-off more cops, especially the ones that write these LIPIO tickets. Good luck to you. MW

Long of the short is that you are pretty much screwed financially by the corruption of the city of Detroit. I suggest fighting the ticket, as I did not fight the ticket. I took the plea of disorderly conduct, and my wallet took a cleaning from the city. Whatever you do, plea not guilty when you are before the judge. Truth is that the city is extremely short staffed and the cops probably will not show up. Even if the cop shows for your trial date he / she will most likely not remember the details of a non felony arrest / ticket. Just think about how many tickets they write in a day / week / month coming up to the trial. You are the last thing on their mind, and will most likely suggest dismissal due to not remembering the incident.
If you take a plea deal, the judge is going to slap another thousand in fines on you, and force you to jump through several hoops that in the end cost you more time and money.
