So I have been following everyone's opinion on the DEC 1 new law. I just wanted to add my thoughts. This is simply a scare tacit that will not produce the results that the state wants it to create. Again, I'm not saying that there isn't a greater risk in what you can be charged with, just that the police are not going to be putting in much more effort to cause a huge impact. Being smart in your search will go a long way. Now if you are the guy that chases the 18-22 year old providers, then you probably have the most to worry about. These providers are usually younger than they say and that will most likely be a downfall for many. Keep in mind: 1. An undercover will hardly ever show their face especially online. 2. they cannot post nude pics. 3. AI pics and ads will be in play but they are usually easy to spot. 4. I think the biggest change will come from the providers themselves. I see them raising their prices and really limiting what they will do and how they perform. We will see. One point I want to respond to: Cost will not be a factor for these sting operations. The Law itself funds for training and enforcement costs. Most departments will be applying for and receiving funding from Raleigh. Further, a component of my job has me looking at the grant databases. I was really shocked to see at least 30 new available grants pop up in the past two weeks from public and private funding sources for local and county agencies in North Carolina who can apply to receive money for stings. All of these available grants provided more than $30 k per release, and some of them had as many as 15 available releases. This means that it funds 15 separate stings. Basically every phony baloney family values organization in the Carolinas has taken up collections to pay for stings. That money has never been available to these agencies before, and of course they can combine funding sources for bigger operations. The biggest issue, however is the fact that three full HSI Teams are now operating in NC. Even California only has one, with their larger pop and geography. Each one of these has over 100 dedicated federal agents. In most situations they will split the teams into 3 or 4 smaller units that try to set people up in different areas. Those teams were previously aimed at Pimps and Providers, and they are now mostly aimed at Mongers for reverse stings in this state now. Because these are federal ops, they have pre-allocated funding from our Rich Uncle.

I hope you're right. However, they are going to be more sophisticated than before. What you have to understand is that Homeland Security has setup shop here. This is not just some fly by night operation. Providers will be incentivized to help LEO. Essentially, you can't put full trust into any provider. Or I'll ask you, how many of them would turn down thousands of dollars to entrap mongers? Not trying to scare anyone, but I respectfully advise you and everyone else to think about the possible ways to get caught up in this. Here is my opinion. Both Raleigh and Durham have bad police shortages. I imagine there will be cases where they end up using the same number as well. I was always bothered when people would say to look someone up on such and such site by name but not include the number they reached them at. It would already be very easy for scammers or others to take name and photos and make a new ad with a different number.

As we get down to zero hour, I'll add a couple of things. I think I'm done, or at least in NC. I saw a provider a couple of days ago and I was paranoid af the whole time. I doubt it comes to that. They could post an ad with AI generated pictures of a believably, 5/10 or 6/10 and would still get plenty of hits. I worry that the tactics get more and more pernicious as time goes on. I bet that if they can get you to send a deposit, they can get a warrant and start tracking your finances for a while. Or if you even message a girl, get a warrant to turn on your GPS and then come ask questions or scoop you up in the name of stopping "human trafficking".
