LOL. I never noticed that big "Abbreviations" tab. I always clicked on "FAQ" in the sub-menu and scrolled to the bottom for a list of terms which doesn't include these dollar sign notations.

That still doesn't answer the question for how to indicate something that costs less than $, AND it also seems sort of silly since it only adds confusion instead of actually hiding anything from unintended viewers.
