Had a great visit earlier today with Wendy at the booking agent. I debated about whether or not to name the provider, but I'm going to withhold her name for now.
I've been out of the hobby for a long time but she was the last provider I saw before my hiatus. She was super sweet, accommodating, etc. And had some physical attributes that I definitely enjoyed. She now mentions her rate, which is. 40 over her rate listed in her ad. I noted that it was higher, she claimed that her ads needed to be updated. I didn't really argue because she's still slightly lower than the average going rate. Anyhow, we get on to the location. We agree on Tysons. She then tells me its a $20 surcharge for early check-in. I tell her that has not been my experience, she says it's this particular chain. I don't really agree or refuse to pay the surcharge before she sends me a link to a DC location. I tell her I can't do DC by 9 am. She then sends me a new location and we agree to meet at the "current" rate minus the surcharge.
She then starts telling me about her methods of payment, and here's where I cut her off. I told her I would be paying cash. And here it comes: she requires a deposit. There is no mention of a deposit in any of her ads, and it's almost half of her fee. I tell her that I wasn't expecting that and I only have one account among the various platforms she accepts. I tell her I need to get off the phone (which was true) but I'd think about it and get back to her.
Mind you, I had no intention of paying a deposit. But I did have to get off the phone. So maybe 10 minutes later I text her saying I'm not comfortable paying a deposit. She sends me a long text in reply. She's legit, read her reviews, etc. Etc. It looked like a copy-paste job and was honestly kind of pushy. I told her I just didn't want the paper trail, but thanks for the info. She then asks if I have a reference. I told her that I didn't have one because I haven't done this in a while, etc. Before I can mention that I saw her probably 10+ years ago (I figured that might sound like a lie) she asks if I promise to be there at 9 am, on time. I'm an on-time kinda guy and so the date is set.
This morning, I get out of the shower and see that I have a missed call from her. I have no notification for a voicemail. I text her saying I can't talk but ask if we're still on. Crickets. I finish up my morning routine and head to the location. I call on the way, but it goes to voicemail. About five minutes out, I text her to say I'm going to be there early but don't mind hanging out in my car if she isn't ready. About 15 minutes later I get a text -.
"I called you two hours ago and left a voicemail."
She called at 7:44 am and it's about 8:55 now.
"I saw that you called but I don't have a voicemail from you. I did text and try to call you though."
Her reply: "SMH".
I then checked my voicemail, and yup, I have a message. In her message, she says that they don't have any rooms ready until 10 or 11 am. So I texted her back -.
"I'm so sorry, I do have a message, but I didn't get the notification. I'm not sure what to do here."
She texts in reply, "I was there at 7 am and they said they don't do early check-ins due to covid. I'll hang around the area until noon, so pick a time between noon and midnight. " Mind you, I'm sitting outside watching housekeeping clean the rooms. Why didn't she at least call the place the night before? Presumably, she has used this place before. And why show up at 7 am, two whole hours before the meet? Smells like bullshit to me. She just didn't feel like driving to Tysons in the rain.
So I waited a bit and texted "I made arrangements to have this morning free, and I can't do this afternoon."
No response. Nada. Sure am glad I didn't pay that deposit!
It's disappointing because my prior experience with her was in my top 5. And I definitely appreciated her willingness to waive the deposit and not require the reference. But wow, I was surprised at how she didn't seem to give a shit. Maybe the years haven't been kind to her (I'll note that her photos are at least 10 years old) or maybe she's just having a bad day. But no apology, just pick a time? And who leaves voicemails in 2022? And why not follow up with a text? At the end of it all, it's an hour plus of wasted time, but glad that I'm not out the money.
