OK, so a question about tracking a phone.

My understanding is that every 10 seconds or so cellphones send out a signal, lets call it a "ping. ".

This ping gets picked up by every cell tower in range and enables the phone to establish its position in the system so that calls to it are routed to the nearest tower. So, therefore the system constantly has the location of every cellphone in the world, (yes, it is essentially a worldwide system) in its memory banks.

Included in this data is the very precise direction from which the signal came. 2 or at the most 3 pieces of data from separate towers can then be used to triangulate the location of the phone, and the more towers in an area like a city, the more precise the location will be. The gestapo can get this data from the transmission companies without too much difficulty, and if they have the equipment they can pinpoint the location of a phone very precisely in real time. They can also access data that tells where that phone has been for who the hell knows how far back, months at the least, probably years.

So from this we can see that the only way to not be tracked is to turn the phone off. And, I believe that even when its turned off the phone continues to send this ping. That tells me that you must remove the battery from the phone to really turn it off.

Using 2 separate phones can solve this problem, 1 to set up the date then leave it somewhere, and another to confirm address and so on if you must do that.

My solution to this problem, I'm very careful about what I say on the phone, I'm just picking a girl up for a dinner date. I don't use the woman's facilities, I always get a room. Of course, they are now using the mere reply to an ad as probable cause to arrest, so since the phone you used to reply to the ad isn't with you it can't be used as an inference. And if you get the addy and set the time then you shouldn't have to confirm, if she ghosts on you that's the price of the game which we must accept.

I ended up telling her something came up and I wasn't going to be able to see her that day.
