As far as hard disks vs platters. You are probably thinking of deleting files doesn't actually delete but marks the location (s) of the file "available". To be used by something else. This works the same on spindle drives or solid state drives. Also, this is not applicable to modifications of files. So, flushing dns does not delete your "cache file" it modifies the file and thus the data that "was" there is gone. Poof! Note: dns entries in your cache is just a routing table (comparable to directions to an address you follow to get there) to a site that you've visited. It is not a cache of the site contents, like browser cache.

There are programs out there to write data to locations on your hard drive (and ssd) that is marked as "available" - thus truly erasing the original data.

However, all data written to an SSD is not recoverable once it's been overwritten. It it were, we'd have infinite storage capabilities. Encrypted data is only recoverable if you have the key to decrypt or a backdoor. Many encryption companies do provide a way for law enforcement to decrypt without a key. But one does not. Called PGP encryption.

A CLI versus a GUI is completely irrelevant. Data is data. It's all 1's and 0's. Period. Sure they're stored as electrons, but it's all machine language. The difference between an SSD and an HDD is how it is written and more importantly, how it is stored. The next important matter is how an OS references the data on those drives, which again is not the same as recovering raw data. The OS reads / uses the data differently, vastly different than just having raw data available to it. Even if you use a manufacturer's program to 'wipe' an SSD, the data remains as most, if not all of their utilities are flawed, and regardless of that the write to an SSD is PERMANENT. Even deleting the controller information on an SSD is shoddy at best, and the irony is that doing this leverages the acronym TRIM and the need to utilize TRIM to even have an attempt at removing data from an SSD makes me laugh. BTW, it's not infinite storage, it's that the storage is reusable infinitely, while still leaving existing data on the drive. And with that, now we're getting into Moore's Law, which still holds to be very accurate as the density of drives expands exponentially; though we're starting to see diminishing returns with regard to SSD's and Moore's Law. As for PGP encyrption on an SSD, it can be cracked in hours, regardless of having a key or not. Dutch data scientists did this years ago. If we're going to to talk about encryption, AES is the current standard as it's 128 bit and has a key standard of up to 256 bits, with SHA 512 rapidly taking over.

We don't need to go through these extremes LOL! A: the servers are in Canada. B: its not illegal to visit dating sites or this site C: this whole board could be fiction for all anyone knows.
