Here is a UTube video of a defense attorney cautioning to "never speak to the police". It is about 30 minutes long, but very very worth watching. The bottom line, never talk to the police and always avail yourself of your 5th amendment right.

When it comes to mongering and the hobby, the goal is to get out of any LE encounter without getting arrested AND without drawing any undue or unwanted attention to yourself. This last point is crucially important for those who have wives, girlfriends, or sensitive job considerations.

Lawyers are great at giving advice that sounds good, in the abstract, but can cause problems in real life. Since there's no way to know the kind of cop you'll encounter, there's a risk you'll run into one who, if you piss them off, will make it their personal mission to f*ck you over. And if you don't think some cops can be hugely petty and vindictive, you should think again.

Playing the "I know my rights" card can result in a cop looking for any pretext to arrest you or call someone to "check out your story" or whatever else they can think of. Most cops have had hundreds or thousands of encounters with uncooperative people and many have honed their "f*ck with you" skills to a high level. And, if you think you can threaten them with a lawsuit, think again. They know most mongers don't want to draw attention to themselves, or their activities, and they know their LE dept will pay for any defence while the monger will have to shell out hard-earned dollars for their own lawyer.

If you're single and self-employed, or otherwise have nothing at risk, by all means go ahead. But, if that's not the case, I would strongly recommend thinking about ways to de-escalate and get out of the encounter without antagonising the cops.

Mongers can decide for themselves, of course, as every situation is unique. There's no way a web lawyer can address every variable so best to consider your own risk environment before following anyone's advice, including mine.

If LE uses some minor (real or alleged) traffic infraction to stop you, it'll be crystal clear because the focus of the stop will quickly shift away from traffic issues and they'll start asking questions about the AMP.

Some would advise taking a hard line and refusing to answer questions, or that you won't without a lawyer present, but that'll likely piss off the cops and they'll look for any way they can to screw with you.

A better strategy, IMHO, is for you to stay focused on the traffic stop and act confused when they try to change the subject. Cops hate it when people respond to their questions with another question. If each time they ask about AMP stuff you say something like "I don't understand why you stopped me. What was wrong with my driving? They'll quickly get frustrated. They might write you a ticket, or maybe not. But at least a frustrated cop is usually not as bad as one that's pissed.

If, for any reason, you feel backed into a corner and feel you have to say something about the AMP, just stick to the story that you had a legit massage, nothing more. Don't provide any extra details and don't fall for any ruse in which they claim to have info from people at the AMP. For example, cop says the AMP said you paid $ for a sex act. Your response is that that's a damn lie (the more outrage, the better)!

Bottom-line, focus on the traffic stop (only); ask questions, act confused, and be frustrating without being confrontational; stick to the legit massage story, if you need to go there, but stay vague and provide no details.

It's important to keep in mind that if they had probable cause to arrest you they wouldn't need to do a pretext traffic stop. The tactic of asking a lot of questions is designed to get you to contradict yourself or say something that's clearly a lie. Don't fall into that trap.

Finally, if there's no traffic stop at all, just questions after you leave an AMP, the same strategies apply minus the traffic stuff. You can still act confused as to why you're being questioned and use that as your starting point.

P.S. Some cops will threaten to call your SO, or your work, to put you under increased pressure. Don't fall for that despicable tactic. Keep repeating that you're confused as to why you were stopped and even more confused as to why your SO or employer should be involved in any way.

P. P.S. In a perverse way, if you're in a jurisdiction where the cops are wearing body cameras, that should help you because after a few minutes it'll be obvious that the cops are playing games. You could even turn that to your advantage by asking if the encounter is being recorded and, if not, why not?
