The hotels that you want will allow a cash deposit of varying amounts to avoid the credit card. Examples I know of that will do this in decent areas are the America's Best Value in Livonia and Romulus. The Clarion in Romulus. Some of the Red Roof Inns will do it.

Word to the wise. The deposit is sometimes difficult to get back since they basically look at it as a bribe to not question what is going on in the room.
