I've gotten this text at least three times. It's probably not a big deal. Like the other poster said, you texted an ad that the cops posted, and they're trying to use these texts as a deterrent. I've burned my number every time I got one--just as a precaution so I don't keep getting dinged on the same number and raise suspicion if anyone is on the other side keeping track of the information.

Has anybody gotten a text message from the cook county sheriff or even more annoying, a phone call from them? What do you guys do in that situation? Or can you get in trouble?

Can't say for sure but it might be a scam. I had somebody call me asking me questions about pain killers I bought online. This was nearly 20 years ago so I pressed him to see what he knew. The address he had and the date of the order didn't line up. I mean he was 10 years off from when I actually lived there. When I pointed they out he quickly, but still politely, ended the call.

Fast forward 6 months later I get another call. I explain to him that I already went through this and he has no idea what I'm talking about. I wasn't 100% sure it was a scam before but now I was. I get mildly rude and tell him in no uncertain terms that I think this is a scam and he needs to fuck off. The he also quickly, and again politely, ended to call.

Take what you will from that. Obviously I can't say for sure I'm your case but a provider / agency having your phone number isn't sufficient to get arrested. There are other ways that info could damage your reputation but I wouldn't think a govt agency would waste resources to simply smear people.

That text is part of the anti trafficking stings that are done. If you got a text you contacted one of the fake ads that were set up and the bot is responding to your number. It's supposed to help show you the error of your ways and let you know what a bad person you are. There's more information in a couple threads on here but I'm to lazy at the moment to track them down and attach the links.

Tried to schedule something for a while but never got any response, so I finally decided to try in Spanish and it worked. If you're not very familiar with Spanish, google translate is your friend.
