I believe they don't trust their own therapist so they don't leave room for any privacy. So these poor Chinese women that barely speak english are pretty much working entirely for tips, but they are put in the worst environment for making extra tips. Best case scenario? If there is a private or semi-private room, then I have found all levels of service are available. You just have to be quiet and work the situation and might take one or two times seeing the same women. I have found more often than not, most of the Chinese women in these shops can't speak english so it requires a Master's skill to sign-language your way through. But at those prices it's worth the extra effort and you end up getting a massage on the cheap. And tipping them makes them extremely happy. I guess I would have to say in general, even though they advertise for women and couples, seeing a man at the door and having him escort you in is a huge turn off.

These massage establishments have been around since mid-2000's. They are legit, started in LA first and then spread to Vegas only more recently in 2011-present. They have some really decent ones in LA that give really good massages and the best ones are packed with 30 people in them at one time since it seems their goal is to max profit given small amount of space and low cost massages. The price is cheap, but usually they expect a big tip. Since a foot / shoulder massage there is like $20 and full body for $30, I end up tipping $20. Some masseuses put in a lot of effort since I like it hard, they're exhausted when done with me, so naturally they deserve a $20 tip, but still it's cheap.
