It's nice to get some bennies after putting in so much effort. I stopped by S Massage in Doraville hoping to find a gem that I could invest in, but they had 3 chunky Chinese. As she finished the massage it became apparent that she'll allow a DIY but nothing more. Paid and left.

I agree with you. If the massage is mediocre and / or the masseuse doesn't do the massage how I asked, no reason to tip. If the woman is distracted (on the phone, running out of the room to answer the phone / door), then it's a no-brainer not to tip.
