Gator, you missed the point
The sign is correct. The store sells residential deities. It is a brand new market.
Back to reality. Nice post.
Only in Kensington.
This sign has been at Westmoreland and Kensington for as long as the corner has been a recycle shop.
Now, only in Kensington could a sign painters solicit a shopkeeper to buy his cut rate "talent" as an artist. Then misspell the word home goods and the shopkeeper agree to still hang the sign. Probably thinking nobody there would notice anyway.
This leads me to believe this is another one of those local residents that thinks they had further education by spending three years in the fourth grade. You all know the type. Their idea of higher education is being "taught" on the second floor while the first floor gets the windows washed by two former classmates. They advertise they use the most technologically advanced technique available today to wash windows. Windex.
Now don't get me wrong. I have nothing against those with little to no education. That is, not enough schooling to know how to spell home goods. Nor those that accept the spelling as correct. I just find it a curiosity that the shop owner didn't either see the mistake or just hasn't a clue how to spell it themselves. Every neighborhood has its drawbacks.
Now, Kensington and Westmoreland is an area where the locals send the girls to work at an early age. So we always need to be alert about who we might meet there. This is done because the adults in the family have little to no respect for family values. Their idea of an new Easter outfit is Keds and a basketball jersey. Poverty has many many consequences and knows no boundaries. Is it truly poverty or just plain laziness? I wonder.
This particular location is home to few of the more talented girls that ply their wares on the strip. Jenna is one. And what wares she has available. Those of you that are familiar with her know exactly what I'm talking about.
She is a well educated attractive girl that for the most part can be trusted as closer to ordinary than most. Nice boobs, bolt. Ons as they may be. Still nicer than the flapjacks most of the work force has. Yet she finds herself in a bad hood along with a bad situation. If you see Jenna walking down the street or in the area an untrained eye would NEVER take her to be a purveyor of satisfaction and pleasure. She does drive. Has a vehicle at her disposal. A black SUV. When she strolls she doesn't strut to draw attention. Dresses well and is clean. When's the last time you seen that on the strip? She's very low key. Has her face buried in her working phone. Seeming oblivious to what's going on around her. Yet she is always aware of who's looking or just plain shopping. Rarely see her talking to anybody on the street. Don't see her shitfaced out there at all. She has self respect. A quality lacking by most in that area. I have seen her stroll from the Tioga El stop as far down as the Quick Stop then turn around and head back.
Half a block away from Westmoreland at Willard is the congregation of past, present, and future Rock Stars. Also a couple of drag queens in that mix. Most are never lucid or awake more than twenty minutes in any given twenty four hours of the day, if that. From Willard to K and A is fast becoming the new KOA camp grounds without the RV accommodations. Nobody seems to mind. There's a large variety of activity going on there at just about any hour, for those looking for activity. A lot of the newbies can be found there. They remain until they meet "friends " that will look out for their well being. You know the type. The ones that act as security "watching the girls back" while they rummage through their belongings when the girl is passes out. MacKenzie has been available there for the past few weeks. Excellent purveyor of pleasure. Very attractive girl. Long below the shoulder length hair. Having some abscess issues going on with her feet and legs. Not careful she will lose them.
There's always a very high risk when hanging around there. The locals may try and befriend someone only to rob them or do something worse. Something I always tell the girls that are new to the sport and say they are staying with "friends". There's no such thing as friends in Kensington. It's everyone for themselves. True friends put you up in a bed bug free bedroom when you visit. Not on a used mattress with some strangers body fluid stains on a street corner and tell you they will "look out for you" while she sucks a strangers dick to get them high.
Many years ago when times was different the neighbors looked out for each other there. They really did. I mean truly watched your back. The biggest problem then was which wino the teenagers would get to buy them alcohol on the weekend. Anything that happened on the street was handled at street level. Now nobody sees nothing there. Small time clandestine deals twenty years ago would have garnered significant jail time, don't even get a second look from LEO these days.
There was once a two banks, a liquor store, Horn and Hardt Restaurant, Midway movie theater, shoe store, liquor store, Haberdashery, even a Woolworth with a lunch counter, to name a few. SunRay Drug store was also there. You could enter from Allegheny and exit on Kensington. They had the best pay phones. They was wooden stalls with a seat. Calls was a dime and operator assisted if necessary. You could get a coffee or soda at the counter while waiting for your prescription. Then spend the next few hours in there talking on the phone to some girl that had no idea what addiction is. Now all scripts are sold outside on the street there. Plans could be made to take her to the movies with no intent of actually watching the movie. Still the theater was there and available for its intended purpose.
Millers pharmacy occupied the corner across from Walgreens. Right there at H and Kensington. There was a luncheonette in the El exit that comes from center city. A guy that shined shoes along with a news stand. That guy had pride in his work. He made shoes shine like new. Three of the four corners had news stands.
The working girls worked Jasper and Allegheny. They stayed on that corner for the longest time. They loved their bouffant hair dos. Their biggest customers was the cops. They would put them in the wagon and head toward the river while their buddies covered for them. Do their "business" and then take them back to Jasper. The wagon was red back then. That was the price the girls paid to work that corner. That corner is still active today. Just different talent. Mostly girls headed for the block to grab and get stupid.
Along with changing times comes changing faces and attitudes. There was respect between drivers and the pedestrians. There used to be "No Jay walking" signs right there on the southwest corner of Kensington. They are gone now. The only ones that staggered across the street then was the drunks. These days the junkies, losers and wannabes will walk right in front of every car they can. Begging to be hit so they can score that once in a lifetime pay day insurance scam. Then they can spend the rest of their lives chasing rocks. For some it's the only "job" they ever had or ever will have. They walk from one side to the other. Only to turn around and repeat the process. That is the ones that don't get "stuck" in the middle of the street. Then "rescue" arrives to get them to Temple.
K and A is notorious for the "Lets not obey the lights game". It still has a high density of girls ready and willing to satisfy most needs of those looking for relief.
Each corner there is fast becoming a good pick up spot because of the concentration of drugs and hookers and always changing "employees". Always an active spot for just about any vice desired. The drugs are ever present. Those morons will sell to their kid sister without remorse.
Kellis restaurant was a thriving business along with the Deluxe restaurant Half a block away. Both had good food and on the weekend couldn't get a seat in either spot. Deluxe has long closed and Kellis is struggling due to the constant drug activity outside the front door. Also there was a cab stand right there. People in need could readily get one without a wait.
Ahhhh how the times have changed. The stores on the strip once stayed open till 9:00 pm. Most have closed or changed hands now. That gave those that got paid on Friday a chance to shop a little. Get the things they needed. Didn't include crack, dope or pussy.
Times was different and much more relaxed back then. Most people in the K and A vicinity looked forward not over their shoulder. Parents would shield their children from prostitutes, robberies, car accidents or any other abnormal activity. Back when they had pride. When pride was something to be proud of. Where did it all go? Me, I'm just an 'OL Gator.
Swingers Clubs for Single Men?
Not sure if this is the best place to ask this, so please let me know if there is a more appropriate place. I was trying to do some research before visiting Philadelphia and wanted to his a swingers club. I've had hit and miss experiences at swingers clubs, but they are usually a miss for single men. I see Pleasure Garden Club allows single men on Fridays. I won't be there on the first Friday of the month, which I hear is the day to make it unfortunately. But if I do go, anybody have experience there and know if it is worth the effort? Any other suggestions for swingers clubs or similar clubs in the Philadelphia area for a guy going solo?
Listcrawler / Escort Babylon are gone?
Just tried going to Listcralwer and it looks squatted now. EB as well (since it's the same place).
Another one bites the dust
