More LE Presence on the Ave
I have my theories based on some facts.
Facts:
1)New Mayor who promised to cut the murder rate by 25%
2)New Police Comish who is charged with fulfilling the Mayor's promise. He has disbanded some of the task force in favor of just putting more uniform LE out on the street.
3)Something like 75% of murders in Philadelphia occur between the early evening and early morning hours.
4)Kensington has become a high crime area. All high crime areas have been selected to get more attention.
Theory: The tactic being tried is to put more police on the streets where and when major crimes are most likely to occur. Only time will tell if this tactic works. --- My opinion is that nothing works for long if the root causes are not addressed.
That's just my opinion though.
Add to your facts and theories that there are many stores on K and the Holidays approach and there are more shoppers out there, which attracts more LE presence.
I saw no less than 15 different marked LEs on a short tour yesterday from Huntingdon north to Torresdale, not including 4 LEs that were blocking Lehigh just west of K. I didn't see what the fuss was all about but several people were pulled over right in the center of Lehigh and you couldn't travel either east or west. There were also 4 LEs stopped at 2 different stores on the Ave, apparently investigating something.
LE was behind me after I made a right onto Ontario at the 7-11 and several more were down the street. I turned south just to see if I was being followed, but it wasn't the case.
Just as I was about to pick up Lisa last night at Tioga, an LE sped by with his lights blinking like a bat out of hell, heading somewhere north in a big hurry and Lisa wisely stopped in her tracks until the coast was completely clear. It's enough to make you give up mongering for the Holidays as CJ has advised.
