Do you guys have better luck using a burner phone as opposed to texting apps? I myself use the "TextME" app, and probably get a response 2 out of 10 times. I've tried many different greetings, crickets. Not sure if I'll better luck with a burner which I'm trying to avoid. I know I could always hide the burner and whatnot but the app is so much convenient. I could just delete it or hide it until I'm ready to use. Plus less chance of anyone tracking my identity (no malice behind it). For whatever reason many providers frown upon apps, even though a lot of them also use them.
Burner phone. Never had any issues with them.
If maintaining anonymity is critical (for obvious reasons), a few things to keep in mind with the burner:
1. Always pay for the phone and your minutes with cash (the seller will still know where the phone / minutes were purchased, but not by whom).
2. Just as important, make sure you activate said phone via a means not traceable back to you;.
Example: Office conference room line (or someone else's office line).
Pay phone (yeah, I know they're pretty scare these days, but there are still some out there, look around.
Online via a publicly available PC / Internet connection (Public library for example).
These phones are a cheap / easy way to partake in the hobby while shielding your identity.
