I just keep the drive times under half an hour just in case crap like this does happen. Driving for so long just gives you less leverage because even if it is a provider you're hesitant about, you figure you've already come all this way so you can't just leave. Short drive means that if a bow-wow opens the door, I can say "Fuck it. I'm out," and leave without feeling like a wasted a bunch of time and gas for absolutely nothing.
