Rape is an act of violence, not a way for a man to seek relief. That's the ultimate act of disrespecting a woman. A lot of powerful men in the business world, the church, entertainment and politics are in deep trouble or facing ruined careers because they refused to respect women's boundaries. As for junkies, maybe this will force them to consider getting clean. I'm grateful for groups like AA, NA and other organizations which have helped some of my relatives achieve and maintain sobriety.

I'm disgusted with the recent turn of events concerning Backpage, Craigslist, Eccie, TER and other sites, and I'm disgusted with the lack of respect our federal, state and local governments have for the Constitution. But that doesn't and shouldn't mean we'll see an increase in rape, robbery or other types of crime.

I'm politically apathetic but your guys have all three branches of government, if you are a fan of the Republican team than all you get to say is "my guys are doing this." With that said it does not matter, both parties I am sure are against human trafficking. If I worked in congress I would do and say the same what do I care I have an unlimited source of 20 somethings at my disposal. BP and CL I now notice were too user friendly and most of these other sites are obtuse and poorly constructed. Easy to post, easy to search, find, and enjoy. Anyways it is gone and not coming back. No Governor, state AG, etc etc will allow it back. The owners arrested so why would they come back. Lawyer advise clients to take their losses and move on.

The Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches of government are all in the hands of Republicans and a law that was introduced by a Republican, and was passed (though not signed) by a majority of Republicans and is sitting on a Republican (kind of) presidents desk to be signed. So that's why people are saying Republicans did it. I'm politically apathetic, but if you are a supporter of the Republican party you gotta own this, you don't get to blame it on somebody else, if you support them the only thing you get to say is "my guys did this."

"The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a national organization that works daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States. " BP / CL can go to the ACLU or even you as an individual because you as a citizen want to search the "Personal Ads" to find a match and the government is over reaching with their authority taking these formats away from you. People's right to express themselves to connect with other people to find a match out weights and unlawful activity that may also occur on that website.

Hoes currently use dating apps like Tinder and POF. Also Facebook and Instagram and tweeter, are they going to go after those behemoths as well? I think the answer is no. There is something Un-American about these new tactics,. Cellular phones is a major component for providers to conduct their business, are they going to shut down Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile and Cricket, Metro PCS etc. . Again I think the answer is no.

The thing that may save BP / CL is their is not like Silk Roads, which was explicitly dedicated to illegal activity. BP / CL had other posting to sell cars and other items. If a case went all the way to the Supreme Court, I think they will win. Though they will not be back online in the immediate future, I think they will come back.

Well that aside, it's well known and studied that when the government intervenes like this, violent crime does go up. That is economics 101 and in fact, this very situation is the exact example I was taught (one of many of course) when discussing supply and demand. I guarantee you'll see an increase in rape, robbery, and other types of crime over time.

I can easily see how Backpage never comes back if there's a conviction or a plea deal, but I don't see how the government can justify Backpage's continued seizure if a federal judge dismisses these charges.

Mongers and providers will eventually adjust and adapt, just as they did after Craigslist shut down its adult ads section in 2010 under pressure from a number of state attorneys general. However, the adjustment period will be quite difficult. And in the end, we'll see if the Justice Department prevails or whether they made fools of themselves yet again.

The drug policies failed, we have countless murders and incarceration for something people want to do, so instead of senseless laws being passed to stop it, legalize it and tax it. The murder rate would drop to zero in 48 hours. As far as prostitution, escorting and massage goes, it's the same thing. Legalize it and tax it. I would happily offer my services for licensing to make sure they are qualified and meet minimum service levels to get a license. We are suppose to be a country built on liberty and at this point it is being curtailed and will create yet a deeper black market. What will eventually happen is a decentralized server offering file sharing around the world will be developed and an add-on or application like kodi will be developed and deny the reach of government action to enforce. The government will have to take on every computer owned around the world and the budget in the Justice Department can't afford to police the billions of people and computers around the world.

The website created revenue for the owners. This would be similar to police seizing a drug dealers cash, car, etc. When arrested. Unless I am missing something, the case has to go to court before any seized assets are returned to the owner (or not returned if the person is found guilty). I think it will be a while before the backpage we know is returned. I also can't believe someone overseas or over the border hasn't created a new form of backpage. Seems to be a lucrative business venture to jump on so long as you are not based in the US.
