I found a quick way to spot some of those deposit scams that most of the STG fakes use. I always ask in my first text what area they are located in. If they won't answer that, which gives nothing away about exactly where they are, then they usually plan to try to talk you into a deposit as you get to the point of trying to book a meeting. Its not a fool proof method, because some might actually be local and know the area, but most can't give even a general location because they are posting ads in numerous cities and aren't even sure what city you are responding to.
