I use a burn phone, but I thought I'd give a list of providers who send unsolicited text and / or calls (in order of violator) :

1. Calli and Masha: both text and calls, at least once or twice a week.

2. Bailey: text, once or twice a month.

3. Skinny Hannah: text, but not too often, mostly at the end and only if I have seen her recently.

With the exception of Hannah, I do not see the others because of this.

I was looking at Walmarts website and they had one card which had 1000 minutes. 1000 texts and 30 mbs of data for 30 dollars. Sounds like a good deal, I just have no idea which phones are compatible with it.

It depends greatly on how and how much you are going to use the phone. For heavy users the answer would be different, but for me. A light burn phone user, being merely a few calls and texts w / no data, I like the Virgin Mobile phone. Buy the cheapest one off the rack at a dollar store for 10 bucks, then add minutes. I prefer not to have a monthly minimum so I use the plan that minutes last 90 days, calls are 20 cents min and texts are 15 cents each. I do not talk much on the phone and use less than 15-20 bucks per mo on avg.

I once sat on the phone so I went back and bought another 10 dollar phone at the Dollar Store and registered that instrument under my number and back in business quickly; all minutes transferred over. So I've had this phone for 5 months and spent less than 100 bucks, including the extra phone. Perfect for me, as a second <burn phone user, but this phone / plan wouldn't work for someone who is going to use it much more than I do. VM has other plans with monthly minimums and lower per minute fees but I am not familiar with them. The plans are outlined on their website, which is each to find.

Suggest you go to Wally World and discuss the phones, features and plans with their resident Geek, for those that need more minutes and data.

You can get a number and text on it, even call with the right headset. The cool thing is if you download certain apps they give you free minutes to use to call people, so just download the app for the minutes and delete it. Don't really have to purchase anything. It is a free app (at least it was when I the / l it) and if you don't use the number after so long, you get a new one, so it's like having a whole new burner!

But I was not price shopping it just seemed simple also you can find the refil cards all over town.

I agree the Trac Phone. I got the one with the lifetime double minutes. Also came with a coupon book inside.

But, that's why I use Google Voice *with* my burn phone, so I can mark the onerous ones as spam and never be bothered with them again.

I started reading the posts on this website a couple of months ago and until then never even considered a burn phone. I got a new burner recently because I need a full keyboard. Once you get a kno some girls or if you have a gf on the side who you're not paying (LOL) I tend to send more txt than calls, and it's cheaper on the minutes. Pay a little more up front but saving me time in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

This bridge closure really is a big deal, we will see long delays and gridlock. Due to this many of us will be making our decisions on who to see by where they are located. It would be helpful if we could tell from your ad which side of the river you are on. A lot of ads will indicate both Indiana and Kentucky. I think it's important now to know exactly which, it might cut down on wasted calls and messages and ultimately your time too.

It used to be a trip across the river was just minutes and didn't matter at all. Now the game has changed.

BTW, I'm on the Indiana side and need to find a few more contacts on this side of the river. PM me with tips if you would like. I do prefer independent providers. I'm shy.

You can also use Google voice for free. Just register a new email address and then use it to get a google voice number, that is my main way of making contact to avoid giving my number to a provider. I can text or make calls with my Gvoice number at no cost.

Its ad supported I suppose on the web browser-based version, but I use it on my smartphone and have 3-4 numbers that I use. I am not a provider and not a business owner, I do have several friends in this business on both sides of the fence, so I have a good handle on some things. I was mistaken for someone else yesterday by a provider, this provider threatened if I wrote a report on her she would call the police and report me for doing so and went as far as to say she's already sicked police on people for talking about her, how a report is illegal I have no idea. Anyways, thought signing up would allow me to report and answer questions they may help some of you guys out. I shoot straight, mite not be what you want to hear but my honest opinions, I have no secret agendas in helping anyone. I have read the ongoing reports (legaleagle, jbg, jtb) and from being someone in the loop, I can honestly tell you 90% of the crap they posted is either hearsay or pure speculatuion, I deal in facts, not 3rd party bs. GV isn't a true shield as you say, if you are worried about your number being sought by LEO. But I think a lot of people are simply looking for a "fake" number so they can call providers without getting the annoying calls back. Apparently some of the women when they are desperate for money, start calling / texting people they have seen before.

I have never worried about simply calling a provider's number, without other evidence. Not sure exactly how they would build a case simply because I called somebody.

Almost parnoia over secrecy, and if that is the sentiment then my only point was that GV is not the answer for that purpose. I have read about a comment that someone was worried about the security camera at WalMart at the time of purchase of a burn phone that would / could tie them to the phone, even after making the purchase with cash. That's after just a few pages of your comments on porno scenes, police reports you can see online and others comments. Where are your actual interaction comments, leads, reports? I just think topics like picking a cheap disposable phone and the legalities can have their own topic after just a few people answer / respond.
