Backpage is an easy place to start, but then look them up on this or the oThER site. That site also has ads as well, so that's another place to start.
To new can were off quick once you get ripped off and understand it's your money to choose to spent like you wish too. Theses ladys or girls have to market an appeal to me or I just don't buy in to all the BS. It's not just what I see but the action behind them.

+1 on the research. Triple check numbers on backpage with other review sites as well as on here. Get a burner phone or a free google voice account which allows you to text / sms to setup dates. This will not only protect yourself and help manage your hobby life from personal / business life but if you ever contact the wrong person, they will have nothing on you as you can simply ditch the phone / account.
Also get used to the lingo. I think there is a FAQ section in the top menu where you can find a dictionary on words / acronyms you will hear a lot such as monger, roses, FS, DATY, etc.
I personally started my foray into this hobby by visiting MP (massage parlors) first just to get my feet wet. I'd recommend it as there is less risk since you can see the girl before you discuss options. Can be more expensive, but I think it is a small price to pay for the security, at the very least you will always get a relaxing massage.
