New to the board but I've been around the South Melbourne area for about 13 years. Never once have I been hassled by the police in 13 years until recently. I have been pulled over 3 times in the last 6mo in 2 different vehicles. The police are using plate scanners to capture and track your license plates. If the scanner sees you frequenting an area the officer will put you in a database of suspicious vehicles. When your plate pops up on their scanner it alerts the officer it's a suspicious vehicle. The scanners are mounted on the roofs of the cars and at traffic signals. First time I was pulled over the officer asked me if I was lost and gave me a ticket for tint. Second time the same officer was parked on the side of the road. Plate scanner picks me up and out he comes. Pulls me over and asks me a bunch of questions. My reply. I won't answer any questions without a lawyer present. Issues me 4 tickets for tint. Third time another patrol car police scanner alerts the officer going the opposite direction. Usual questions. I gave the usual answer. 3 window tint tickets.
It isn't what it used to be up there. The number of girls, quality of girls, is way down. The only ones out there are the really really desperate girls because the heat is on and they're not worth it. The police aren't giving an inch this time. I avoid US1 at all costs now. If you frequent the area for fun then you're going to end up in the scanner database and you're going to get harassed. It sucks!
My money is on the fuzz. They are crackin' down on tints. Three stops; two different vehicles; eight citations. Sounds like you are riding around town with illegal tints. Sooner or later that's going to cost you plenty in court appearances and the only real way to beat that is to spend your money on an attorney. Eventually you might get pulled over and it could escalate because of something else brother. Why would you risk all that and not switch your tints? Just sayin. You're gunna do what you're gunna do, but eight tickets for the same thing isn't smart. They are going to use the tinting excuse on you until you fix it.
BTW. It is not against the law to cruise areas that are frequented by hookers. It's perfectly legal. If you can afford the gasoline you could do it all day every day. Sure they can stop you and say,"You have gone around this block twenty-two times. Are you lost?" All you have to say is "No officer, I am not lost. I am out for a drive."
But my top rule for mongering is not to draw attention and both of the vehicles you were stopped and cited in got attention.
