It's still sad to hear this news. From what I've read, induced comas (due to sepsis) are usually because of severe brain damage.

I consider prayers useless, but hopefully the doctors / nurses are able to get her on the mend quickly. Either way she's going to be messed up physically / emotionally / financially after this mess. Being put into a MIC has long-term effects, granted they will be less than if she was older but she'll still probably need (at a minimum) physical therapy. I had a friend who busted up his leg and such fairly badly. He couldn't walk for a couple months. You lose a LOT of muscle tone very quickly. Took him a year to learn to walk again, and he wasn't even in a coma. She might even have emotional issues depending on the reason they had to put her in a coma. Another friend got was side-swiped driving his motorcycle, and they had to put him in a coma for 8 months. He's lucky his dad had money, but he had severe financial issues until the insurance stuff was worked through, and he was in therapy for two years. The accident didn't just mess up his neck (he had to get his neck vertebrae fused, no more turning his head) but his brain got a bit of ding. He couldn't (still can't, in some cases) quite control emotional states very well. As in he'd break down crying or lose his temper or start laughing uncontrollably.
On top of that the bills are going to be nuts. My friend who was put into a MIC was lucky enough to have good insurance and his dad was fairly wealthy. Why? Even with his insurance the hospital bills still came to US $50 k in 2000.
Hopefully this is just a short situation for her.
