My initial thinking was that even the local Korean Klub wouldn't want to scare off customers and would put those posters in the back where only the girls would see them, but I have no idea how that really works. In any case, the [U]Scary Story[/U] post is publicly viewable, which is why [B]Rico7[/B] tried to initially post a link (and I just completed that). Personally, assuming the story is accurate, I think it's good information that should be widely read. The lesson I took away (paragraph 2, line 1) is that any given "late weekend night" would appear to, possibly, draw the wrong element to these places. I've been to some pretty seedy areas, but only during the brilliantly bright light of day (preferably mornings), and would never risk going to those same places after dark. I know for a fact law officers have made the rounds warning cash heavy businesses to make an effort not to keep much cash on site. Other then massage joints, nail salons and barber shops come to mind. I would not be surprised the spa robed was reported and police distributed the pictures as a public outreach. Some probably threw the pictures away, at least one posted them in clear site.

I will take a wild guess passed on OPs scary story and say the spa was VM.

Letting that irresponsible nugget run wild in my head, I'm left pondering if the Tampa Bay Area Korean Koffee Klatch went out and hired some goons to "rough up" a Chinese-run place that is WAY outperforming those Korean places by providing Orlando-style services! ... all in an attempt to run them out of town, or at the very least to "send a message!" This is the stuff of a good episode of Barnaby Jones, or maybe Mannix since the subject is a little spicier.

Once my coffee buzz dissipates a bit, I gotta say that's just ridiculous! This is just a bunch of thugs taking advantage of the situation you originally described... a cash-heavy business that's less likely to report to LE. Yeah, that's the ticket.

There's been a couple shutdowns recently in the area (Yoshiko and Eve's) that I'm not sure will be back or not. In my head canon, they're casualties of the secret wars.

What drove my theory was (a) there is a mini-turf war happening in my town and (b) the word "destroying."

Now that I read it again, I understand "destroy the place" as in tearing it up looking for cash stashes. I'm not a stupid man (well maybe a little) so I can't tell you why I saw it in my mind as destroying it as in just reckless destruction.
