Why isn't BBFS more Prevelant?
OK, so a provocative title to attract readers. I know the answer to the question. That said, found a report on the population of HIV / AIDS infection in the City of Philadelphia. Now perhaps I am reading this wrong, but it appears to point to some ways to manage one's risk? Everyone of course has to look them self in the mirror and decide what is an acceptable risk that they want to take. NO ONE should be degraded, belittled or chided for making any choice they so choose, even if you disagree with their choice. But with knowledge is power and one can act as they wish.
This is for information / educational purposes only. Don't flame me. Don't flame others. Read it, go into the report for details if one wishes, learn and decide for yourself.
The report can be found at:

Here is what I found interesting.
Total (means men & women) Population of cases through 12.31.13 - 30,000.
64.5% Black.
20.9% White.
12.0% Hispanic.
74.3% Male.
25.6% Female.
Looks like overall 1/4 risk playing with women.
Transmission Risk.
Male to male (M2 M) 34.7%.
Injected drugs (IDU) 30.2%.
M2 M & IDU 3.7%.
...so..... nearly 70% risk with these groups! Avoid M2M players and drug users!
OK, not the greatest numbers but do show the risks of drug users and gay-realted dudes. BUT... Drilling down further.
Persons Living with AIDS, 2012
Black women 31% vs black men.
White women 14% vs white men.
Hispanic women 28% vs Hispanic men.
Of the Whites (men & women) Ages
Aged 0-29 2.5%.
30-39 8.1%.
40-49 29.4%.
50+ 59.6%.
Of Black (men & women) Ages
Aged 0-19 0.7%.
20-29 6.1%.
30-39 12.8%.
40-49 31.9%.
50+ 48%.
Of Hispanic(men & women) Ages
Aged 0-19 0.5%.
20-29 4.7%.
30-39 13.8%.
40-49 33.8%.
50+ 46.9%.
does this suggest that under 30 is the safest age with low risk?
Persons Living with AIDS by Gender and Selected Characteristics, 2012 Of the Women
Black women 72.6%.
White women 9.6%.
Hispanic women 14.6%.
Others combined 3%.
Females...Living with aids.
0-19 1.7%.
20-29 7.7%.
30-39 17.1%.
40-49 36%.
50+ 37%.
So this appears to suggest that younger is less risk? What happens to the risk if one combines age and ethnicity? For example 20-29 aged Hispanic women? Is it 14.6% X 7.7% = 1.1%
Appears to be born out if one looks at the prevalence rates in another table near the end it summarizes this data.
Overall Population has a prevalence rate of 1.3% or 1,299 per 100,000
Whites overall (men & women) 0.68%.
Black overall (men & women) 1.9%.
Hispanic overall (men & women) 1.5%.
White women 0.21%.
Black women 1.1%.
Hispanic Women 0.85%.
Yousa! Looks like the risk of HIV from young women in Philadelphia is quite low. Use of drugs increases risk and other factors may be in play too.
Stay safe out there!
