Argentina can be amazing and I had an awesome time in BA. Obviously you time would be so much better though if you know people. I myself prefer Rio or even San Paulo but then argument between BA and Rio / SP mongers has been going on since mongers began populating those areas. Moreover, I actually found Chilean chicks warmer then Argentine but Argentinians can be crazy, definitely more sophisticated and super adventurous but also often have an edge to them that some may not ind welcoming. All thing being equal however I still prefer Brazilians who I believe strike a better balance between being nice, interesting and having a higher level of education and knowhow. As for looks, on the whole I found Argentinian women better looking then Brazilian but remember that applies only if you like white European stock.
If you prefer racial and ethnic diversity in your mongering, Argentina is not even in the same league with Brazil. Actually just look here in Boston: you have Brazilian Lilly (who I sometimes see) and Vickie Brazil who are natural blondes, then there are black Brazilians, Indians, Asians, all kinds of mixes and in numbers too. In Argentina it's mostly white Europeans and while there I met several BA-based mongers who told me that they actually preferred ladies from nearby Paraguay to the Argentines. But! You will find many Brazilians working in BA. You will always find some Argentinians working in Rio or San Paulo but they sure are not as numerous there.
I believe one of the reasons many mongers prefer BA to Brazil is the language. That especially applies to American mongers who all just by the sheer fact of growing up in the States already speak varied degrees of Spanish. Also Portuguese is significantly more difficult to learn then Spanish. I speak both, Portuguese better but my Spanish is good enough so not to have much of a language barrier in either place. The advantages of knowing Portuguese over Spanish is the ability to understand the other, and that ability usually is a one-way street. Portuguese speakers have no problems understanding Spanish-speakers but it rarely works the other way, largely (in my opinion) because Spanish has a ringing clear pronunciation to it while Portuguese is a lazier language: it's soft, fleeting, and to untrained ear it would always seem as though a Portuguese speaker swallows half of the words he says. In fact, in the way Portuguese sounds it often reminds me of Polish.
There is very little doubt in my mind that Rio and SP are more diverse then BA, and I venture to say more cosmopolitan, as in having more staff and having more staff going on at any particular point in time. There are much more foreigners in Rio then in BA and from many more parts of the world. That being said however, many American mongers seem to prefer BA and I think one of the other reasons besides language, is the appearance and maybe even a certain proximity in attitude too.
Argentinians like to think of themselves as more European and that their country, and especially their capital, is more European-looking then South American. Well, if we have an Argentine here I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for what I'm about to say, if not insults and threats, but I beg to differ. Argentinians are not more European. They are more American, or how they like to say, more Norteamericano (don't say that you're an American in Argentina, say you're North American or you're bound to be thought of as a "bad American"; BTW, no such problem in Brazil). Buenos Aires looks and feels more like New York or DC then like Rio or London or Paris. When I was visiting friends in large Argentinian coastal city of Mar-del-Plata, once I looked over and I had to pinch myself because I was sure that I was looking at the coastline of Swampscott. I didn't tell that to my friends or I might've lost them right there and then but boy was that a snapshot!
