Its not uncommon. I know a couple of people who went to Law School in their 40's. I actually heard of an American waitress who ended up getting a law degree. Checking accounts are easy to opened with a tax identification number (TIN). A temporary Social Security number is also easy to acquire. That and a passport is all you need to open up a bank account. Ive assisted a few providers with opening up accounts, before. They can do it themselves, if they go to a bank with associates that speak Chinese in the SGV.
There are small Chinese run shops all over the metro LA area that ship packages and transfer money to China as a side line. They can be restaurants, bookstores, phone stores or markets.
