I have a security background and recognize 'Hanet' but that is a little of out context here. To you really mean Hanet? You've piqued my interest but don't entirely follow.

In terms of LE being out there "for that reason" do you mean SWs? I would would question that but also be curious because:

1) they are in precisely the wrong spot, which would seem obvious to any cop

2) while staties do get involved in vice stings some times, it is always in cooperation with local departments (who were not there and there was no paddy wagon.) You'd don't see staties investing a lot of time in booking johns and SWs as they do not have the setup for that.

3) lastly in this case it was a very heavy presence for a typical sting and it looked like they were really prepared for something heavy duty.

I doubt this was a prostitution sting. But would be curious to hear what you know.

I meant to say haven't. There seemed to be extra police presense on Dot Ave for whatever reason. There were pullovers for traffic type transgressions that usually the police ignore so there may be some sort of community pressure involved. I Got pulled over on Bowdoin for going 5 mph over the limit.

I haven't been out since I got pulled over that night due to OT at work and the icy weather. I have cruised Chelsea briefly passing through from my jobsite and you can only do one or two loops because they have a van at bellingham square as well as these orwellia cameras everywhere.

Best luck is down to the DD. I also tried Meridien street in eastie. Totally dead (that was a great place 10 yrs ago). If the weather cooperates I'll be out Wednesday night and give my full recon report on the Dot Ave unmarked car. He looks to "square" to be BPD. Looks statie all the way. Sorry for the typos. The other night I was looking for a little variety instead of calling one of my regulars so I decided to take a cruise... Started off with Chelsea, which was dead. Except for the six cruisers and one unmarked... So I moved on to Boston. Started off with Dot ave. The good news was there was no LE in sight at all. Bad news was they didn't need to be as there were no girls out either. On to BHA, which was dead as well (actually there were a few girls around there, but nothing worth even slowing down for). Next stop on my cruise was CT. Spotted a BSW and a WSW in front of 7-11. I don't find black women attractive, and the WSW wasn't my type either. Head over to Park square, and spotted a reasonably attractive WSW on the corner. She smiled as I drove by, so I made the loop for a second look. She looked to be mid 20s, long blonde hair, 5'6"-5'8", 140-150 lbs. Little taller, and larger than I prefer (I like the little petite girls), but she was the best that I'd seen all night. I stopped and she hoped right in. Said her name was Stacy (at least I think that's what it was). After the usual small talk, she said quoted me $50 and $100. Told her all I had was $30, and she agreed to it. Off we go to my spot. She gets to work with a rather pathetic CBJ with lots of teeth and hand. AL, do you really think anyone is monitoring those hundreds of cameras on any sort of a worthwhile real time basis?

Even in England which has camera's all over the place you never hear 'and we were able to apprehend the perp when the astute officer noticed the illegal activity on his monitor. You always here 'after reviewing the camera footage we were able to indeed confirm that a crime took place.'

I think in most places its impossible logistically to man all cameras but i have been in rooms where there are banks of LCDs on the walls and one or two guys trained in behavioral anomolies looking for stuff while looking at 50 screens at once. However, These are enclosed areas and the survelliance is all based on foot traffic. Much different than city streets.

As far as guys in cars. Boston is too big for that so there would be cameras only at predesignated hotspots. However, in Chelsea the population density and small size of the "track" make it very feasible for one guy at the station to easily notice every single car looping around (there's also a van/cruiser at the bellingham T Stop that just sits on the median). I pass through Chelsea on my way home and do a quick 10 or 15 minute loop which sort of has me looping on and off that track and away from the cameras and Van.

To answer your question, Chelsea has that critical density which makes it so easy for one guy at a bank of LCD screens to monitor the whole "track" effortlessly..For Boston, thats damn near impossible unless you want to bankrupt the cities financial and manpower resources. It'll never happen efficiently in Boston (Only at hotspots).Gotta run, but I found more pics of a nice half haitian/half jamaican girl I picked up on Dot Ave ( near Welles) last winter. I agree that after the fact is more likely. We do live in a society that it would suck to be an international spy who wanted to stay unspotted as there are cameras everywhere. The latest is google's mapping technology which is actual pictures of the street. Personally, I feel that this is a great tool to see what is out on the street if you have a LOT of time to search the streets of what was out on some day when the google van was driving down the road!

Went out Wednesday night. Hit Dot Ave about 11:30 pm and worked my loop. Good thing to report is there was no LEO presense. Hardly saw one all night. Chelsea like most things got the camera's from a federal grant. I can assure you no one is viewing those camera's in real time (no grant money for that). The Chelsea PD will sometimes sit in Riley's or the area you mentioned next to the T stop. From those two spots they can view most of the downtown track.

The dept of Homeland security is dramatically reducing funding to local governments. A lot of the money is being wasted. Some of the money was being used to pay for these video cameras. Street prostitution has no relationship to homeland security.

alright, fair enough. as I do too often, I read that too quickly and cherry picked the word that stood out to me.

HAVnet is a CCTV security system so I thought he was talking about that. I just installed an IP based camera system for rural town, part of much larger control system that has nothing to do with interfering with peoples lives. I have mixed feelings about them, but I can tell you having already tried to pull out images for evidences (vandalism) that they don't work for shit.

My experience (which is not conclusive, just anecdotal) is that the cameras are used as a deterrence and rather than for evidentially purposes. Although the Raytheon system installed in intersections and highways -- takes a hi res picture of you and your license plate and sends automatically sends it you with the presumption of guilt. That system crosses a line on civil rights IMHO.

Of course, this Google 'street view' system is a whole other story. Theres already a guy on this board posting picture of hookers he's caught with that system.

yes, I probably did. HANET = Highways Agency Network = the UK's highway monitoring network, but I believe they use the Raytheon system. Its not its own system. I think I just had been staring at too many documents and read things too quickly and thought I saw something I didn't. Let's drop this now.
