Met up with a UTR ATF of mine last night. I suspect some of you might know who she is. I've been seeing this girl on and off for several years. Calls me regularly to talk as we've become good friends in that time, but I've put off the "date" for awhile. Almost skipped the event last night as well but in the end was glad I made the last minute change in plans.

Anyone hear anything more about a news report that I heard last night involving a fellow monger who visited a provider in Ann Arbor? Apparently, she demanded more money, he balked, then went to LEO, as I understood from the brief report. Cops arrested her and thinking about arresting him, last I heard. I posted something about this on the Flint board in response to Flint running stings of late. I wonder if any law experts would know if the Constitution protects the right for someone to sell sex for money. If sex between consenting adults is not illegal how does adding some payment to the act make it illegal? Is there any other act that is legal only if money does not change hands? It would be like saying you can come and clean my house but if I pay you it's illegal. Seems the US needs to take morals / religion out of lawmaking. Even Canada allows legal escorting. They are able to tax the proceeds and put some rules as far as how one runs a business, they know it's sex for money as opposed to here when people hire escorts for "dates". Law enforcement should have better things to do than seek out consenting adults having sex. I suppose for them it's more fun and safer than real police work. How many cops have been caught having sex during what is supposed to be undercover work. And the idea that they can impound your car for a non-felony seems over the top.

Not to mention that your out in public soliciting women and committing lewd sexual acts! The thing with canada is, once you are in the privacy of your own room, then it is legal. Were in a election season where the repub canidate can and will make all of our lives a living hell going after what we do in private as far as porno, prostitution or even same sex marriage for the gays. At least the other guy is too busy just trying to bring the economy back (which will dry up the SW talent just like clinton did)

No court has ever held that the Constitution gives us a right to have sex for money. Therefore, the State can criminalize such behavior.

It's interesting that the Supreme Court of Ontario recently ruled that criminalizing incall prostitution in Ontario, Canada was a violation of a woman's constitutional rights there. But I don't see any similar argument being successful here. Not that I disagree with you, but I think it will take a change in the criminal laws, not a constitutional challenge, to make prostitution legal.

This ruling has been criticized, mostly by Republicans, since the day it came out, partly based on the fact that there is no specific section of the Constitution that creates a right to privacy in so many words. The 1965 case struck down a law that made it a crime to sell contraceptives to married couples, hardly a controversial law in today's setting.

There is nothing in law that protects any right of people to engage in prostitution and it would take a real stretch, considering the fact that states have regulated and outlawed all sorts of sexual behavior for centuries. Hell, there are plenty of states that make "sodomy" a crime (including between married people) and that go on to define "sodomy" as including oral sex in addition to butt sex. Those laws don't get enforced much but the fact that you don't see any politicians rushing to repeal them tells you a lot about how sexually conservative America is.

As for legislating morals, isn't stealing from someone else immoral or breaking a promise / contract immoral? Almost all law is based on someone's opinion of what is immoral.

Texas) , so the right to privacy does encompass consensual sodomy. But I continue to think that it would be unlikely for any US court to rule that the right to privacy includes paying for sex.

But only 4 of 9 bought the privacy argument; O'Connor relied on equal protection to strike the law down in Lawrence. I frankly doubt that the current court would hold the same way.
