I've noticed that most providers themselves utilize the text apps such as TextNow as well. It's easy to find out because performing a Google search normally exposes it as a land-line phone. I've also noticed that some providers have two phone numbers: their real number and a backup text number. Just my experience.

It's because there are a TON of guys who contact providers and set up appointments and then never show up. Or maybe it's just a few guys doing this from different numbers, which is the whole point. They have no way of knowing if the same guy keeps hitting them up just to waste their time, unless they make clients use a number that they can save to keep track of clients who have wasted their time, or acted badly, and refuse to book an appointment with them next time. Why not just use a burner phone like a tracphone burner bought at Walmart's with cash? It's only 20 bucks and then only another 20 bucks to buy a card, also with cash, to keep it active for 3 months.
