Craigslist to remove erotic services section, monitor adult services posts

After weeks of pressure from state and local law enforcement officials, Craigslist is announcing today that it will remove its controversial erotic services section permanently. In its place, the classifieds site has created an "adult services" category for which every new listing will be manually approved. Currently most ads on the site are posted without review.

CraigslistAs of today, the erotic services section will no longer accept new ads, and will be removed completely in seven days. Posts to the "adult services" section will cost $10, twice as much as those for erotic services listings. Craigslist had agreed to donate proceeds from the erotic services listings to charity, but says that rule will not necessarily apply to the new ads.

In a blog post that Craigslist plans to publish today and was provided to The Times, the San Francisco company argues that the case against it had been exaggerated.

crime than print classifieds," the post says.

"However, with respect to this new paid category for advertising by legal businesses, we will experiment with some of the methods traditionally employed in paid print classifieds."

Craigslist went on to thank various parties whose input influenced the decision, including attorneys general, law enforcement officers around the country and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which had defended the site online and in the media.

Law enforcement officials have often complained about the ease with which prostitutes and their clients can arrange encounters on Craigslist. But officials have stepped up their criticism since the slaying of masseuse Julissa Brisman, whose body was found April 14 in a Boston hotel. Police say the killer found her through a Craigslist ad.

Boston University medical student Philip Markoff, 23, is accused of bludgeoning Brisman with a gun and then shooting her. Rhode Island authorities filed additional charges last week, saying he robbed a stripper at a Warwick, R.I., Holiday Inn two days later. He was arrested the following week as he drove to a local casino with his fiancee.

Markoff has pleaded not guilty.

Anybody ever done a verification with Bella Models. I keep hearing that the Verifications are bs, but this one might be worth a try. Just seeing if anyone has had experience with them.

I notice that there is no nudity in any of the pictures and on ts there are no pictures at all. So it's going to be hard to find someone with a good body.

They can still post links to pics in TS, they just can't post the pics in the ads. It does make it harder though as you can't just narrow your search down to only ads with pics. I know that a couple of my provider friends have been complaining about these recent events and asking me if I can make web pages for them. So maybe this will turn out being profitable for me. ;)

I'm sure all of this will only be a temporary set back until enough providers figure out how to work around it. There's just too much demand for it for CL to shut it down so easily.

I'm sure that a few of the less intelligent girls will have to go to working the street since they can't figure out how to work around CL's new restrictions. They're going to be in for a major shock having to work for street prices. I think some of them had an over inflated opinion of their value anyway and needed a reality check.

I passed by last night and I did not know why it was closed until I read the boston.com news article.

What I find funny is this quote from the police commisioner - "This is not a situation where there is a good bar in a bad neighborhood,’’ he said. “When that bar goes away, the crime will stop.’’

I guess the drug dealers and hos will just up and leave because the club is closed lol.

I seem to see lesser quality around the streets as of late. Sure there is an occasional nice looker or two, popping up from time to time. This said with LE making the tracks hot-er and hot-er its in most cases not worth the deed.

Sure you can find a gal trying to get some coin after the bar rush or before going to the after hrs clubs. Drama is a large factor in that decision. I am sure I am not the only guy not wanting to put up with that foolishness for a fee.

Hey guys,

Just doing a little market research here. Our new girl, Sandy, has been offering incalls on the north shore so far. She likes to move every few days to avoid too much attention, and was asking me where she should go next. So I figured I'd ask you guys. She's pretty much open to going anywhere (except Boston and Cambridge), so long as I can get her business there.

Please only suggest an area if you'd like to make an appointment with her in the next week. We're considering either, stay on the North Shore, Metro West, or Cape Cod.

I wish you could do polls on this forum, it would have made this so much easier.

If you find any info about these, please do share with the board. I've joined up on a few swinger sites, but pickings in the CT/RI/MA area are very few, especially if you are a single male. I've seen one in NH, but most the rest I see are NY/NJ and further. There is a board in the CT forums here for this topic as well, but you won't get much info out of that either.
