Recently visited the Casino in Kings Mountain. There's a lot of security. Even a sheriff car with lights on at entrance for some reason. Rather off putting really, made me not want to even turn in. No idea why they would feel the need to station a car with lights on and even another one without at the entrance. Yes, there were quite af few people there so crowd control is needed I guess. Inside the 'eye in the sky' or foot security would catch any provider being even remotely obvious. As mentioned in a previous post the truck stop close by may be active but it looked closed to me. Casino was busy and my impression very safe which is what you would expect if you were throwing around money.

Visiting Charlotte and want a good meal with some good scenery. Steak 48 and Mizu stick out. Any recommendations?

Thanks.[/QUOTE]I found Steak48 to be fairly underwhelming, at least relative to their marketing and price point. I would just as soon go to Mortons, Ruth's Chris, or Del Frisco. Generally speaking I'm not super impressed with the chasin based steakhouses and Steak48 wasn't much different.

Mizu has great views, but I only dropped by their bar for drinks with some friends, we did not eat, so I can't comment on the food.

I think my recommendation would depend on where you wanted to be, if Southend is the destination and Steak is the goal then Steak48 or Del Frisco is fine, just don't expect to be blown away by either if you're used to the high end steakhouses one can find in major metropolitan areas.

If you're not opposed to going uptown then Fahrenheit has acceptable food and a beautiful view of the city. La Belle Helene is probably one of the more beautiful restaurants I've gone to in Charlotte, it's located on Tyron too so you can walk to a few bars after. If you're sticking with Southpark then the previously mentioned steakhouses work. If you're not settled on a Steakhouse then something like Bulla or Dogwood would fit the bill. I'd avoid Peppervine, it's definitely a poster child of the emerging trend in Charlotte where a restaurant puts strong focus on aesthetic and branding then forgets to make decent food.

If nightlife and cocktails are the goal I'd stick to uptown and trying to hit a few of the rooftop bars there, there's a couple and they've all got a solid aesthetic. Most don't bring anything special to the table in terms of specialty cocktails and what not though.

There are several Latino food trucks parked at various locations on South Blvd. My favorite one is the truck parked at the gas station on South Blvd. and Archdale. Their chicken burritos and quesadillas cannot be beat. Sometimes I will buy 2. One for me and the other one for a working girl that I consider special. After all, that's the gentlemanly thing to do.

For what it's worth, this city is a bit baffling to me. They have a significant amount of financial industry but there really are not a lot of places like what you mention in other major metropolitan areas. For instance there are thriving scenes with companions playing the field easily accessible in Houston, NYC, Atlanta, Chicago, even smaller ones like Cleveland, New Orleans, or Denver. You for sure will not find any "friends" at the bars around here though, although there are some aspiring sugar babies at many of these places. Most looking for that unicorn that doesn't really exist. You'd be better off just finding a girl online to go to dinner with if that's the goal. E ros is generally going to be more expensive, but it also rules out the possibility of ending up with a piece of trailer trash on your arm.
