At least the FBI has shown a willingness to play a very long game that includes fake reviews and building up a credible senior profile. The local cops I think play a shorter game where it's less likely they'll go to those lengths. Really they're just looking for some quick numbers and quick fun, so happy to go after the dumbest guys they can find as fast as possible. Most, but not all, of the stings around here are with the SW trade and massage parlors, where complaints from the neighbors are most common. I'm not sure I've heard of a monger sting with MPs -- but I guess it's possible.

But it's always a good idea to scope out a notel property before landing, and where possible to park at an adjacent lot of a restaurant nearby then walk over and check things out. There may be safety in the sort of budget dives where things usually happen. Do a search for the lowest rates on a hotel site, and if you get someone operating out of a place outside the lowest 10 or 20, it's probably reason to be more cautious.

Better still to stick with regular UTRs, whose being under the radar works on a lot of levels, though even some of these can be well known to and frequently popped by LEO.
